Irina Vachkova is a distinguished Bulgarian ceramic artist, celebrated for her innovative and expressive works in the field of ceramics. Born in Troyan, a town renowned for its rich pottery tradition, she pursued her passion for ceramics at the Troyan School of Applied Arts, where she met her future collaborator and partner, Ivaylo Ivanov.  In the late 1990s, Irina and Ivaylo began their artistic journey together. They initially focused on creating souvenir items to sustain themselves financially. Their early works were characterized by a blend of functionality and artistic expression, reflecting their desire to make art accessible and meaningful.

Their shared vision and dedication led to the establishment of Thermocouple in 1999, a ceramic studio that has since become a significant name in Bulgarian contemporary ceramics. The duo's work transcends traditional pottery, merging artistic innovation with cultural heritage, and challenging perceptions of ceramics as merely utilitarian objects.Irina's artistic philosophy emphasizes the importance of organic forms and balanced design, drawing inspiration from both natural elements and architectural structures. Her creations often feature unique glazes, including opalescent effects and vibrant hues, achieved through experimental glazing techniques. Each piece is a testament to her meticulous craftsmanship and artistic vision.
