Sea Views, Ceramics & Long Lunches at Metaxi Mas

When we think of Mirina, we think of Metaxi Mas, our go-to spot for a proper lazy lunch after the market street drifts into its afternoon nap. It’s our little ritual: sneak away, grab a sunlit table, order a glass of wine, and let the day stretch out in no particular rush.

Metaxi Mas is right on the port, with the kind of island feel that’s hard to put into words, fishermen coming and going, kids fishing off the edge, cats asleep in corners, and that soft background hum of life happening at its own pace.
The interior is just as relaxed, casual and a little eclectic, full of wise and ironic signs that always make us smile. Nothing feels forced. It’s lighthearted, welcoming, and lived-in.
At the heart of it all is Chef Yota. Her cooking somehow manages to surprise us year after year, familiar, yet always evolving. There’s care in every dish, and a quiet confidence that keeps the menu fresh without ever losing its roots. Whether the restaurant is packed with
locals, visitors, or both it’s always good. Always.
So when we brought our Pottery & Poetry Ceramics here for a photo shoot, it wasn’t just about styling food on beautiful plates. It felt like sharing something special in a place that already means a lot to us.
Here is what Chef Yota made for us:

Cheese wrapped in filo dough, golden and crisp, drizzled with honey and sesame

Shrimps saganaki with tomatoes, peppers, and feta

Local pasta with fresh shrimp, light, flavorful, and impossibly satisfying

Steamed mussels with garlic, lemon, white wine, and butter — and this is big: Irina had never dared to try mussels before, and now she’s a convert.

Fried barbouni, fresh and full of flavor

Tzatziki, the creamy, garlicky kind that disappears fast

Fava - creamy yellow purée, slow-cooked and smooth, topped with olive oil, onions, cherry tomatoes and capers

And the famous Metaxi Mas salad - greens, roasted cashews, juicy nectarines, orange slices, and soft flakes of local cheese.
Everything was served on handmade porcelain pieces from the series: Ocean Creatures of Limnos and Alienistic by Pottery & Poetry.
Watching it all come together, plates, flavors, place, people was a quiet kind of joy.
It wasn’t a typical shoot. It was a love letter to our favorite lunch table, and a reminder that simple pleasures, done well and shared with heart, are always enough.
If you’re in Limnos, don’t miss Metaxi Mas. Come hungry. Order something you’re not sure about. Sit near the water. And let it all sink in.
With love,
The Lillu Team
